Brandon Nickerson’s "Monica”

Conclusion

So, to recap, Brandon Nickerson’s newest single-weight, single-style display sans typeface is a fantastically-cute throwback that’s perfect for packaging, book covers, clothing and posters.

A few hours earlier…

Originally, I was going to write a review for Sfizia, atipo foundry’s latest hawtness, but then I received an email from Brandon Nickerson about his latest typeface, Monica.

I have reviewed Brandon’s typefaces before, here and here. He is a very prolific creator and he does another cool thing, which is to allow free access to his newest fonts for a limited time. In fact, Monica is still free, which goes to show two things:

  1. You motherfuckers should totally click on my posts as soon as you see them and

  2. Subscribe to my Patreon. Just kidding. I don’t have a Patreon. That link is a rickroll. Do not click on it.

  3. But I do have two books about graphic design available for purchase on Amazon. Wink-wink. Yeah, this is a third bullet point. You were clearly asking for it.

  4. Anyway.

An ampersand. Few people know that ampersands are actually wild desert creatures with an appetite for danger and living on the edge. That’s why you never see them in the wild: they are readily eaten by lions and robo-zebras. Read a book.

In medias res

Surprise! This review has broken all conventions by playing around with timeline-shifting and manipulation. You have now reached the middle section of the review, which is going to be a story about my youth. It does not relate to typography at all, so if you want you can skip this part and go straight to buying my books as a holiday present for your loved ones. Store link at the top.

So, when I was a small boy, my godmother got my a circuit board for less-than-bright kids, which I used to build a short-range transmitter. I then broadcast my farts and belches, hoping that someone anyone! would listen to them. My mom was in tears because she’d raised an idiot, and my dad was in tears because he was laughing so hard.

I like to believe that, someday, an alien civilization is going to receive my broadcasts and be inspired to make their own fart-and-belch radio station. Because isn’t this what life is all about?

My point is, buy my books. And download Monica here. Make sure to check out the rest of Brandon’s store out, too, because he has some awesome typefaces for sale at very affordable prices.

Happy holidays!
